Technology Storytellers at Pittsburgh TechFest 2019

By Shan Bhide

Pittsburgh TechFest is a one-day tech crazy event organized by Pittsburgh Technology Council where software development professionals from southwestern Pennsylvania and surrounding areas get together to talk and learn about perfecting the craft of building state of art software solutions that solve real problems. This year’s TechFest was on Saturday, June 8th, 2019 at NOVA Place in Pittsburgh.

More than 200 attendees from the Pittsburgh technology landscape gathered together to talk and participate in discussion on advanced technology topics.

Multiple technology disciplines like Software Development, Testing/QA, Product/Project Management, Business Analysis, Database etc BAs etc. and variety of technology stacks like Ruby, Java, .Net, JavaScript, Python, SQL Server, Oracle, etc. were touched upon.  New kids on the block, like Public Cloud, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence made the discussions more exciting and relevant.

This year’s TechFest event had a special theme of “Technology Storytellers”.

Technologists often times get wrapped up in the arcane details of technology and lose the exciting part of a greater story that makes the technology as integral part of our lives.

This year’s focus was on encouraging the tech folks to tell a story of their journey of building innovative software solutions using all technology options at hand to solve real life problems.

Listening to these stories was an amazing experience.

Some noteworthy topics that I personally liked were related to journey towards cloud architecture by moving from On premise to Cloud based solution, machine learning platform, improving quality by test automation and benefits of agile software development.

SoftWriters, as one of the leading companies in the field of healthcare software in Pittsburgh, was main sponsor of this event. A troupe of people from SoftWriters’ Customer Success, Product Management, Software Development, Marketing, and HR departments attended and participated in this amazing event.

SoftWriter’s booth saw heavy interest from attendees.

Special give away items, like a rubber ducky that doubles up as a stress ball, were a hit. So were the innovative t-shirts with a sample of code on the back.

This code sample and its design on the t-shirt was appreciated by many attendees.

In simple terms, this code translates to what SoftWriters as a software company is all about. It is about “Great People, Great Software and Great Place to Work!”

SoftWriters also presented an innovative topic of “Emerging technology trends in Long Term Healthcare: Convergence of Voice Assistant, Connected Devices and Quality Measures!”.

Healthcare in general, and long-term care in particular, has evolved tremendously over the last couple of decades.

Technology advances have initiated a business transformation in the healthcare industry for the better.

Our SoftWriters team presented and demonstrated some bold and exciting technology directions and ideas, like Amazon Alexa “Voice Assistant” interface to our flagship product FrameworkLTC, and benefits of connected devices leading to better patient outcomes.

These newer technology trends are sure to accelerate the digital transformation across the Long Term Health Care continuum to improve efficiency, increase margins, and be profitable in today's competitive environment.
